2020 Collaborative Monsoon Storm Chasing Workshops
Overview:
Join us as we partner with some of the most talented and respected photographers in the industry to offer you the ultimate storm chasing photography workshop experience. The 2020 schedule features several incredible opportunities to work side-by-side with an exceptional lineup of guest guides and instructors, including Greg McCown, Sean Parker, Lori Bailey, and Robert Gallucci. Our collaborative offerings feature an even smaller and more private group setting with extra time dedicated to one-on-one instruction. In addition to learning advanced storm photography, time-lapse, and post-processing techniques, you still get a front row seat to witness and capture some of the most spectacular weather events of the spring and summer set against a backdrop of breathtaking natural landscapes in the Desert Southwest.
While the atmosphere always provides an element of uncertainty, we will seek out a wide range of visually impressive weather phenomena including lightning, dust storms, microbursts, shelf clouds, transient luminous events (sprites), and much more.
Whenever possible, we will strive to include iconic shooting locations wherever our journey takes us.
What to expect:
We will start with a brief introductory orientation where you will meet your guides and instructors, then the adventure begins. Each chase day will start with a comprehensive weather briefing, forecasting, and targeting session where we will analyze the latest data and determine our starting location for the day.
Attendees who are interested in the forecasting process will learn about the models and data sources we use, what to look for, and how to translate that information into a successful chase day. We will cover key apps and how to use them, navigation and route planning, timing, and most importantly, safety. Those who prefer to focus on the photography aspect of storm chasing can opt to use this time to ask questions and interact with our special guest instructors.
Following the morning planning session, we will travel to our initial target area. Our small workshop size allows us to travel in comfort in a premium sport utility vehicle equipped with weather radar, satellite GPS, snacks, beverages, and at times, a corgi named Aspen! (That's a free bonus)
